THE BUTCHER BROTHERS, MACKENZIE FIRGENS & THE VIOLENT KIND.

Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores are American filmmakers who work behind the alter-ego The Butcher Brothers.

Mitchell Altieri's first feature film 'Lurking In Suburbia' (2005) was a comedy written and directed by Altieri, and was co-produced with Phil Flores. It was then discovered by Trevor Groth - the programmer at the Sundance Film Festival.

''Lurking In Suburbia', starred actors Samuel Child and Joe Egender - who also appear in The Violent Kind as Murderball and Vernon respectively.

It was after the success of this film, that Altieri and Flores created their alter-egos The Butcher Brothers, and so began their career in the independent film industry, working mainly in the Horror genre.

Their first film as The Butcher Brothers was 'The Hamiltons' (2006). I stumbled upon The Hamiltons, quite by accident, while I was perusing the Horror section of HMV. The Hamiltons, immediately caught my eye, just from the cover - so I bought it.

From the opening scene, I was hooked.

The two characters who appealed to me the most were the twins Wendell and Darlene:

I loved Darlene's make-up in the film, and immediately after watching the film for the first time, attempted to recreate her look on myself (unsuccessfully).

Flash forward to December 2014, I was again browsing Horrors and Thrillers - this time on Amazon, as some absolute philistines had decided to turn the enormous HMV on Oxford Street into a Sports Direct!! Ugh.. Anyway swiftly moving on, while on Amazon I decided to type in The Butcher Brothers, and The Violent Kind came up as one of the first results. I clicked on it and saw that it had nearly all the cast from The Hamiltons in it, including Mackenzie Firgens who played Darlene. My mind was made up, and I added it to my Christmas 2014 wishlist.

That Christmas, as I unwrapped present after present, hoping The Violent Kind had arrived - I found it, the very last present, tucked behind the back of the tree.
